Description
Tirzepatide is a peptide
used for weight loss and type 2 diabetes management in adults. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection once weekly using a pen, with available doses ranging from 2.5 mg to 15 mg. The Zepbound brand of tirzepatide is also used for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults with obesity. It works by activating both GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) hormone receptors, which helps in improving insulin sensitivity and promoting energy balance.
Tirzepatide is available in a 20 mg/mL injection solution, and the dosing schedule typically starts at 0.13 mL subcutaneously once weekly for the first four weeks, increasing gradually to 0.75 mL subcutaneously once weekly after the twelfth week. It is important to adhere strictly to the prescribed dosing schedule and to rotate the injection sites weekly.
